Stylish Blogger Award

A quanto pare, questo blog è stato considerato piuttosto "Stylish" visto che il buon Zerloon ha gentilmente deciso di nominarmi per lo "Stylish Blogger Award". Niente più che una specie di catena di Sant'Antonio nata per incrementare la visibilità dei blog che si considera particolarmente meritevoli, ma mi è para una iniziativa carina, alla quale valeva la pena di partecipare!

Detto ciò, il premio prevede anche degli adempimenti da espletare, purtroppo per voi in lingua inglese (ma poi c'è anche la versione in italiano...). Ergo, armatevi di pazienza per il mio stile di scrittura nella lingua anglosassone, perché si parte!

First of all, a really big thanks to Zerloon for nominating me! Lorenzo is one of my closest friends, my best man for my wedding and also a great player and miniature painter, as you can see on his beautiful blog. But, best of all, he costantly breaks all the laws of probability when throwing dices, a special power which frustrates his really good strategies! If you need to try a new game, don't do that with him, because you'll not be able to get a correct impression of the luck factor involved in the game! ^__^;;;

Seven things about me:

1. I have to say that for me gaming is an ereditary condition. My father has been one of the first in Italy to write about wargames and RPGs, and I began moving counters on a hex map and consulting CRTs when I was 5 or 6!

2. Another passion I inherited from him is military history, especially of the modern age. I am a big napoleonic enthusiast, and I have to confess my bonapartist sympathies: vive l'Empereur!

3. Actually, reading rulebooks and essays about wargaming and military history was the key to my learning to read and speak English since I was 10 years old (my penchant for watching motion pictures and TV series in their original language was the other!). Some years ago, I have also worked as a professional translator from the English for Mondadori and Fazi Editore, translating books and essays about military history and applied technology. I hope for you that I learned to write well in English, too!

4. Although I have my likes and dislikes in the gaming genres, I am very curious and always ready to try something new for my gaming evenings. Regretfully, there are far too many games to try and so much little time! And in that little time, I also write for Gioconomicon, the most-known Italian information sites for gaming.

5. I try to paint miniatures (fantasy, sci-fi, historicals...) but I am really not good at doing that. This doesn't keep me from buying tons of lead, plastic, resin and other games that for the most part will never see the gaming table! And I have to thank my really patient wife, Benedetta, who must collect day after day all the packages coming to my house from all over the world and containing my latest "toys"!

6. I decided to create this blog because I wanted to speak more about gaming than just games. Even if I am graduated in Law (whit a thesis about administrative laws and the new tecnhologies), I have a great passion for philosophy (this one coming from my mother!) and I wanted to get a closer look about the emotional and rational aspect of gaming and his quintessential factors. Hence the name of the blog, Ratio Ludica, or "The Reason of Gaming". Too bad that I can't update this blog as much as I would like! And, yes, I write posts who are way too long!

7. I was born in Rome, but my family comes partly from Northern Italy (Romagna and Liguria) and Cassino (yes, my grandmother was there during the battle and the aerial bombardment... not a pretty experience, she told me), with some Jewish ancestors, too (something I am very proud of). Maybe this accounts for my curiosity, which goes from games to history, philosophy, ancient traditions, literature and mostly all kind of music! Yes, it's a bit of a mess, here! ^__^;;;

Plastic Legions (English blog) - Made by a really good miniature painter, this blog contains a great deal of informations and great images of his latest plays.

The Napoleonic Wargamer (English blog) - Want to know something more about the most common historical period for wargaming? Then, look no furhter!

Il Disinformatico (Italian blog) - Breaking away from the gaming world, here is the blog of Paolo Attivissimo, hoax-buster extraordinnaire, member of CICAP and proud defender of the common sense. Here you'll find all the latest news about the en vogue cospiration theories and the simple, rational facts that demolish them. A great read for a rational enthusiast of mistery and hidden history, like me!

Baionette Librarie (Italian blog) - It is not easy to describe the blog of "Duke Carraronan". I don't always agree to some of his opinions, but here is a man who really knows his salt about military history, the book industry and the new trends of fantastic literature. Also, what can be more stylish than a Pickelhaube?

Zweilawyer (Italian blog) - Another friend, connaisseur of ancient military history. Look out for his exhilarating review of bad Italian fantasy books (there are far too many of them! -___-) and for his historical excursus of some of the less known, but often really important, battles of the ancient world.

Massacri Fantasy (Italian blog) - Speaking about bad fantasy, another nice blog about the worst fantasy books available on the market! The interviews wiht their authors make for a real good laugh, too.

(A last mention for Chez Gnotta', the blog of my great friend Fabio. I have not nominated his blog for the Award for the simple fact that he already received it! But that doesn't mean you shouldn't go out and see his spectacular pieces. A real good painter and a nice fellow player. Too bad that I regularly defeat him at Commands and Colors... well, that's not true, but sometimes I get to win...).

Prima di tutto, un grandissimo grazie a Zerloon per avermi nominato! Lorenzo è uno dei miei amici più cari, il testimone del mio matrimonio e anche un ottimo giocatore e pittore di miniature, come dimostra il suo bellissimo blog. Ma, ancora meglio, riesce sempre a infrangere le leggi della probabilità quando deve tirare dei dadi, un potere speciale che manda a rotoli le sue ottime strategie! Se dovete provare un nuovo gioco, non fatelo con lui, perché non potrete farvi una giusta impressione sull'elemento fortuna di quel gioco! ^__^;;;

Sette cose su di me:

1. Per me, il gioco è una malattia ereditaria. Mio padre è stato uno dei primi in Italia a scrivere di wargames e giochi di ruolo, e ho cominciato a muovere segnalini sulla mappa esagonata e a consultare le tabelle di risoluzione del combattimento quando avevo 5 o 6 anni!

2. Un'altra passione che ho ereditato da lui è la storia militare, soprattutto relativamente all'epoca moderna. Sono un grande appassionato del periodo napoleonico, e devo confessare le mie simpatie bonapartiste: vive l'Empereur!

3. In effetti, leggere regolamenti e testi sui wargames e la storia militare è stato fondamentale per farmi imparare a leggere e a parlare inglese da quando avevo 10 anni (la mia abitudine di vedere film e serie TV in lingua originale è stato un altro grande aiuto in tal senso!). Alcuni anni fa, ho lavorato anche come traduttore professionale dall'inglese per la Mondadori e Fazi Editore, traducendo libri e saggi sulla storia e la tecnologia militare. Spero per voi che io abbia anche imparato a scrivere bene in inglese!

4. Anche se ho i miei gusti in fatto di generi ludici, sono molto curioso e sempre pronto a provare qualcosa di nuovo per le mie serate di gioco. Purtroppo, ci sono davvero troppi giochi da provare e troppo poco tempo! E in quel poco tempo, scrivo anche per Gioconomicon, uno dei più conosciuti siti di informazione ludica italiani.

5. Cerco di dipingere miniature (fantasy, fantascienza, storiche...) ma non sono affatto bravo. Questo non mi impedisce di comprare tonnellate di piombo, plastica, resina e altri giochi che non vedranno mai il tavolo! E devo anche ringraziare la mia paziente moglie, Benedetta, che è costretta a prendere giorno dopo giorno tutti i pacchi che mi arrivano a casa da tutto il mondo e che contengono i miei ultimi "giocattoli"!

6. Ho deciso di creare questo blog perché volevo parlare più dell'attività ludica che semplicemente dei giochi. Anche se sono laureato in Diritto (con una tesi sul diritto amministrativo e le nuove tecnologie), ho una grande passione per la filosofia (questa mi viene da mia madre!) e volevo dare un'occhiata più ravvicinata all'aspetto emotivo e razionale del gioco e ai suoi principali fattori. Da qui il nome del blog, Ratio Ludica, o "La ragione del gioco". Peccato che non possa aggiornare questo blog quanto vorrei! E, sì, scrivo post che sono davvero troppo lunghi!

7. Sono nato a Roma, ma la mia famiglia viene dal Nord Italia (Romagna e Liguria) e da Cassino (sì, mia nonna era lì durante la battaglia e il bombardamento aereo... non un'esperienza piacevole, mi ha detto), con qualche antenato di origine ebraica (una cosa della quale vado molto fiero). Forse questo spiega la mia curiosità, che spazia dai giochi alla storia, alla filosofia, alle antiche tradizioni, alla letteratura e praticamente a tutti i generi musicali! Sì, c'è un po' di confusione, qui! ^__^;;;

The Napoleonic Wargamer (blog in inglese) - Volete saperne di più sul periodo storico più frequentato dai wargamers? Allora, questo è il blog che fa per voi!

Il Disinformatico (blog in italiano) - Allontanandoci dal mondo dei giochi, ecco a voi Paolo Attivissimo, ammazza-bufale straordinario, membro del CICAP e orgoglioso difensore del buonsenso. Qui troverete le ultime notizie sulle teorie complottistiche più in voga e i semplici fatti razionali che le demoliscono. Un'ottima lettura per un appassionato razionale del mistero e della storia nascosta come me!

Baionette Librarie (blog in italiano) - Non è facile descrivere il blog del Duca Carraronan. Non condivido sempre le sue opinioni, ma ecco un uomo che ne sa davvero di storia militare, industria del libro e nuove tendenze della letteratura fantastica. Inoltre, cosa c'è di più stylish di un Pickelhaube?

Zweilawyer (blog in italiano) - Un altro amico, conoscitore della storia militare dell'antichità. Non perdetevi le sue esilaranti recensioni di brutti libri fantasy italiani (ce ne sono fin troppi! -___-) e le sue trattazioni storiche di alcune delle meno conosciute, ma spesso cruciali, battaglie del mondo antico.

Massacri Fantasy (blog in italiano) - Parlando di pessimo fantasy, un altro bel blog sui peggiori libri fantasy disponibili sul mercato! Le interviste con gli autori sono uno spasso.

(Un'ultima menzione d'onore per Chez Gnotta', il blog del mio grande amico Fabio. Non ho citato il suo blog per il premio per il semplice fatto che lo ha già ricevuto! Ma questo non vi impedisce di andare a vedere i suoi bellissimi pezzi. Un ottimo pittore e un ottimo compagno di giochi. Peccato che riesca sempre a batterlo a Commands and Colors... beh, non è proprio vero, ma ogni tanto riesco a batterlo...).
